At Coleman Sudol Sapone, P.C., all of our attorneys are hands-on
computer literate.
By that we mean that the attorneys may create their own documents,
do revisions and final versions on their own computers.
In most large firms, it is rare to find attorneys over the age of
40 who are computer literate and generate their own documents at the
computer. Instead, they rely
on one or more of their staff to generate documents which could more
efficiently be produced right at the computer.
While this approach may not be fatal for a firm which deals in
general practice matters, it can be an extreme problem for firms
specializing in technology law and intellectual property asset
development, especially where the staff generating the documents is not
intimately familiar with the terms in the relevant technology.
The relevance of this is that if an attorney hand writes or dictates
his or her documents instead of revising a document first hand, there
is a great likelihood that a staff member transposing the attorneys
writings or dictation will make numerous mistakes requiring a number of
revisions of the document at great cost to the client.
