At virtually all law firms, the financial goal is to generate
billable hours, because that is how the law firms generate revenues
and realize profits (partners salaries).
In addition, because the legal product generated by the attorney
on a given matter is often unique, there is no means for the
lay client to gauge the value of the services the attorney is
providing. To rely on the expertise
of the individual who has a clear incentive to increase billable
time to determine the most efficient way to produce a desired legal
result is having the fax guard the chicken.
The system is particularly onerous to clients who do not have
in-house counsel (see litigation management
).
At Coleman Sudol Sapone, P.C., the attempt is to avoid the
traditional approach to the practice of law by the large firm.
In fact, we have found the large law firm model to be completely
inconsistent with our approach.
By this, we mean that the firms goal is not to generate billable
hours to support huge overhead costs.
Nor do we create overhead for the purpose of simply growing.
Instead, our approach is to minimize overhead in order to better
serve the client in an unbiased manner.
Our firm structure and business model necessitate that we practice
law in an extremely efficient manner.
Our goal is to provide the client with the most efficient results
oriented approach available. Having
practiced at large law firms, we understand the pressure which is
exerted on attorneys to maintain or generate billable hours in order
to enhance profitability. At
Coleman Sudol Sapone, P.C., because of our non-traditional business
model, our low overhead and our hands-on business experience and document
production, we offer a way to avoid the typical pitfalls associated
with dealing with large law firms.
